Jo’burg Fashion Week 2011 saw the commencement of the
African Fashion International young designer search. AFI Fastrack is a national
fashion design development platform that aims to nurture and develop South Africa’s
young design talent. This platform offers young designers an opportunity to
launch their careers through intensive mentorship, business development and
coaching for future success.
African Fashion International continues to promote
excellence throughout the fashion industry of South Africa and the African
continent by giving young designers a head start in the industry. Based on the
success of inaugural event, Fastrack continues as a fitting opening for the
shows at Jo’burg Fashion Week 2012.
Submissions for AFI Fastrack were drawn from 2011 graduate
ranges of participating design colleges around the country. These submissions
undergo three stringent processes where twelve finalists were finally selected.
They will present their collection at the finale on Fastrack day to an
independent panel of judges who will then select the final three winners.
