Sensual curves at Dolce & Gabbana, Romance at Ferragamo
Dolce & Gabbana's sparkling jackets and star-studded dresses on curvy models dazzled Milan Fashion Week on Sunday, as guests and viewers around the world watched the action backstage streamed live.
The pair had gone for slightly rounder-looking girls for their skin-tight dresses, adding a touch of feminine shape and sensuality to a collection otherwise dominated by masculine lines.
The theme was distinctly music-centric, as models with piano key and treble clef motifs on dresses, bags and earrings sauntered down the catwalk to Martha & The Vandella's "Dancing in the Street".
Milan met hipster-Brooklyn with oversized, sleeveless or cut-off pinstripe suits worn with Sinatra-style trilbies and pork pie hats on the back of the head.
Bedazzling emerald green and silver jackets and dresses were worn with over-the-ankle socks and high heels, while the series of yellow, black or white floaty star dresses were cut low at the back to reveal black bra straps.
Bloggers' and tweeters' comments were posted live on large screens above the catwalk, as webcam footage showed designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce rushing to put the last touches to outfits seconds before they hit the floor.
Dolce and Gabbana, who took a smiling bow together after the show and shot straight off to celebrate backstage, showed no sign of concern about an ongoing investigation for alleged tax fraud against them.
At the Salvatore Ferragamo show, romantic strains of classical music and a version of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" sang out as creative designer Massimiliano Giornetti wooed with shimmering satins and soft calf leather.

Fall 2011 Looks We’d Love to See at the Oscars
The Academy Awards fall at an interesting time for stars and their stylists: the middle of fashion month. We already made some predictions as to what the night’s leading ladies will wear, but how will the new collections factor in? By Sunday, all New York and London fall 2011 collections will have shown, and Milan collections are coming in as we speak, so stylists and PRs are being put to the test to see how quickly a dress can go from the runway to L.A. They’d better be FedEx-ing their hearts out, because the following dresses need to have Oscar moments.
Unknowingly, each of the dresses we chose was either black, neutral or red. Boring? Perhaps, but most celebs have been playing it safe this awards season and it’s pretty likely that these are the colors we’re going to be seeing this weekend.
The reds: We could totally see Hailee Steinfeld pulling off this Marchesa number. This bow-belted Monique Lhuillier is definitely an option for Michelle Williams. The off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuillier would look great on just about anyone
The neutrals: The Donna Karan has Anne Hathaway or Scarlett Johansson written all over it. The embellishment on this super-special Jason Wu dress needs some red carpets attention, and so does Jason Wu for that matter. This tulle-heavy Marchesa dress screams Oscars and would be perfect on a major star, like Nicole Kidman or Annette Benning.
The blacks: We could see Jennifer Lawrence or Amy Adams in this ODLR number. This Derek Lam is a bit of a stretch since leather isn’t exactly typical red carpet fare, but if a leather moment ever were to happen, it should be in this dress. Phillip Lim is also not your usual Oscars contender, but this collection was exceptionally elegant. We could see this on Julianne Moore or even Natalie Portman, given its baby bump-friendliness.

John Galliano suspended by Dior | following arrest over 'anti-semitic rant'
John Galliano, the fashion designer, has been suspended from Christian Dior following his arrest for allegedly making anti-Semitic remarks towards a couple at a Paris cafe. The fashion house said he would be asked to stay away from work pending the outcome of the police investigation, raising doubts over the Christian Dior fashion show planned for March 4.
The 50-year-old was arrested in the French capital's Marais district, which has always been the traditional home of the city's Jewish community.
He is believed to have been drinking heavily in a local bar on Thursday evening when he launched the alleged attack.
Witnesses called police during the incident, which took place in front of dozens of astonished revellers in a busy covered terrace.
A police source said: 'We arrived extremely quickly and managed to break up the disturbance. The man involved was briefly arrested and then released pending charges for assault.
'Witnesses said he swore heavily, using anti-Jewish insults, before attacking a couple. Both have provided witness statements, as have a number of other people at the bar, including staff.'
The source confirmed that Galliano, who has been chief designer at Christian Dior since 1996, was the only person arrested in connection with the incident.
Galliano, who was born in Gibraltar and then brought up in South London, is often seen in the bars and café of the Marais.
Galliano, who regularly performs his trademark 'rock star' poses at the end of fashion shows, is one of the world's foremost celebrity designers.

PZ Cussons names Michelle Feeny head of new beauty division
Following its £62.5m acquisition of St Tropez in September last year, PZ Cussons has formed a new beauty division that includes the self-tanning brand as well as The Sanctuary spa products and Charles Worthington hair care.
The premium beauty brands portfolio will be headed up by Michelle Feeney, currently ceo of St Tropez, who will report to Alex Kanellis, group chief executive of PZ Cussons.
Feeney will be supported by company managing directors Ann Murray (UK) and Selma Terzic (international), who have served in roles for Sanctuary and St Tropez respectively.
PZ Cussons Beauty will commence full operations from 1 June 2011 and will be headquartered in Covent Garden, London. The new set-up will see the PZ Cussons Group split into two autonomous divisions – PZ Cussons Beauty and PZ Cussons UK. The latter division will comprise the group’s core washing and bathing portfolio that includes Imperial Leather, Original Source and Carex.
Commenting on the strategic move, Kanellis said: “Given the similarities and synergies which already exist between St Tropez, The Sanctuary and Charles Worthington, the creation of the beauty division was the logical next step in ensuring that we realise the full potential of these three outstanding beauty brands and maximise their presence both in the UK and internationally.”
In her 25 years in the beauty business, Feeney spent 11 years at Estée Lauder before joining St Tropez in 2006.
Kanellis added he is confident that Feeney’s experience will give the new division drive and creative know-how to grow PZ Cussons premium brands in the UK and overseas.
Speaking about her new role, Feeney said: “I am thrilled to be taking on such an exciting role and I believe there is a significant opportunity for all three brands to grow both in the UK and internationally.
“It is a unique position – we are creating a new division, headquartered in London with a core stable of British brands. The role enables me to utilise my global experience and brand building skills to take these much loved UK ranges to new markets around the world.”
Around the time of the acquisition, Feeney had said potential targets for growth would include emerging markets.

Clements Ribeiro autumn/winter 2011 at London Fashion Week
There are occasions at Fashion Week when the clothes are so beautiful, so totally right that you almost have to be forcibly restrained from jumping onto the catwalk and removing them from the models. (Well I do, at least!)
The Clements Ribeiro collection for autumn/winter 2011/12 was just such a show.
The mix of heraldic embroidery, military detail, leopard-print and patterns which morphed from plain to extravagant in a swish of silk or bricade, was perfectly judged and an exhilarating reminder of just why we love the eccentric-chic of Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro.

Big hair from billion-dollar woman Jessica Simpson
She may have lost some of her lustre when it comes to record sales, but Jessica Simpson reigns supreme in the fashion world.
Her empire is projected to make history this year, by becoming the first ever celebrity fashion line to earn one billion dollars in annual sales.
The singer-turned fashion designer's clothing line raked in an astonishing $750 million dollars in sales last year, making it the top selling celebrity clothing empire.
Jessica and her fiancé Eric Johnson |
'I never thought I'd be some fashion mogul!' she admits in the accompanying interview.
When asked why her brand is so successful, she replied: 'When it comes to other celebrity brands, I think a lot of people do a great job, but it can't be all about them. Everybody doesn't want to just look like the celebrity, because they can't. They just want one element of that style.'
She also told the magazine she plans to launch new ready-to-wear and career separates lines.
The Texas native launched her Jessica Simpson Collection in 2007 with a line of handbags, shoes and boots.
She has since expanded it to include watches, clothing, cosmetics, luggage, bathing suits, and fragrances, which are all sold in major department stores across America. According to fashion blog thefashionistaforum.com her sales have risen by almost a quarter in the last 12 months.
That would put her in the same league American fashion titans Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang and Donna Karan.
In the interview, Jessica also opens up about her engagement to former NFL player Eric Johnson, and described his marriage proposal.
'It felt great for somebody to be on his knee and I had to sit on that knee because I was so excited and overwhelmed,' she said.
Jessica has not yet revealed a wedding date - or who will be designing her wedding gown.
