OUTSTANDING LOOK.

Check Out The Winner Of This Week's 'Your Look'

A LOOK reader wearing her home-made high street fashion dress
This week on our Facebook page, Sophie Keegan got the most ‘likes’ for her outfit in YOUR LOOK. We agree she looks amazing and she made the dress herself – wow! The Dennis Basso faux-fur coat may be a little warm to wear now, but we love the look with the ASOS pendant.
Sophie, 23, says: “When I finished fashion design at uni, jobs were really hard to find, so I started making dresses for friends. Then someone suggested I put it on Facebook and the response was amazing! I am now self-employed with Pretty Little Poppet and I’ve made hundreds of dresses. The best thing is bumping into strangers wearing my designs! At the moment I am loving the '70s trend, vintage-style florals, and kimonos are my summer must-have cover-up. Topshop is my favourite shop and LOOK is my absolute style bible – I can't wait till Tuesday every week!” Aw, thanks Sophie!

Living in Los Angeles, Dressing For Bondi Beach

It may be edging into winter in Australia, but with Memorial Day just around the corner in the U.S., Nicky Zimmermann figured the time was right to open up shop in Los Angeles. “We are always trying to get that feeling of the memory of an idyllic summer’s day, and how that made you feel. Summer is very much our season,” the designer of the eponymous swimwear collection told Style.com from her home base in Sydney’s Tamarama, right off of Bondi Beach. She may be far from California, but the West Coast, she said, always makes her feel right at home. “Every time I’m in L.A., I’m very comfortable there. It’ s very much like Sydney. The line is different from what’s already available there, but it definitely still fits in,” she said of the airy Robertson Boulevard boutique.

The new store (the first stateside) features a mix of Zimmermann’s signature swimwear, accompanying resort-wear, and ready-to-wear collections. “So many people start just doing swimsuits,” Zimmerman said, referring to the competitive and seasonal marketplace. “But we started as a ready-to-wear company, and the swim has always come from our ready-to-wear and what we do. That gives it something different.” That design ethos has informed swimwear with a certain focus on fashion—more than just skin-baring sex appeal. “We definitely touch on a very fashion end of swim, and [our customers] know to come to us for that.” Though the bikini may always be their best seller, a new focus may be taking hold. “In Australia, we sell one-pieces really well. It’s something we’ve focused on in the last few seasons. They’re very corset-looking, very sexy, with lace-enriched detailing. We definitely have a market for that.” The swimwear is balanced with the line’s ode to day dressing. The new collection, called Halcyon Days, was just shown at Australia’s Rosemont fashion week in Sydney (left, models preparing backstage for the runway). The new offerings feature textured natural fibers, light linens, and silk slub materials that are ideal for day with a light, summery feeling. “I design for the girl that’s right outside my front door in Tamarama and on Bondi. She’s not only beautiful, but she’s really stylish and cool. That’s the girl that I think about when I’m designing and choosing the prints and thinking about colors. And it’s now the same girl I see when I come to L.A.”

Editors, actors, and models alike took a night off from gala season last night, exchanging ball gowns for cocktail dresses, to celebrate the opening of Hugo Boss’ new Hugo store on Greene Street and honor the Young Collectors Council of the Guggenheim Museum. That famous edifice was reproduced in miniature, crafted entirely out of Legos—and while there were plenty of clothes on the racks, it was the mini museum that caught Chloë Sevigny’s eye. “I don’t think [they’re] for sale but I really want one of those Legos,” she said, wearing a sleek, black and white Hugo Boss number. “I actually slept over in the Guggenheim once for an art exhibit—that was pretty cool,” she added.

Though he wasn’t ready to spend the night there, Ryan Kwanten (a regular wearer of the Boss brand) seemed to feel right at home in the Hugo store. “I know it’s a weird comparison, but the lighting is quite similar to set lighting in here,” the Aussie actor observed, as he leaned against one of the Grecian-style white columns lining the center of the store. The soft red overhead lighting he was describing was a major focus in the design element, the scarlet hue being the mainstay color of the Hugo brand identity, according to Hugo Boss creative director Eyan Allen. Kwanten added, “It can’t detract too much, in this case, from the clothes.” The handsome True Blood star was the one drawing eyes away from the pieces hanging nearby. Looking sharp in his suit, he confessed, “In Australia, we don’t like to look like we try too hard when we dress, but I have learned to dress up my style. And I just recently discovered skinny jeans.” But, he clarified, “not so tight that anyone would question my manhood or anything.”

Cheryl Cole: Britian's Latest Fashion Export

Simon Cowell sure is stacking the judging panel on the U.S. version of his hit show, The X Factor. Not only is Paula Abdul signed up, but singer Cheryl Cole is also onboard. The British pop star has actually been a high-profile judge on the UK version for a few seasons now. Cheryl gained recognition as a member of the all-girl group, Girls Aloud, and now has a successful solo career. The soon-to-be worldwide star earns kudos for her often daring fashion sense. Just think of her as a smiling adaptation of Victoria Beckham.

The X Factor auditions are currently happening across the U.S. and Cheryl has been getting noticed for her colorful wardrobe. A big part of what has made her stand out on the talent show, and everywhere else for that matter, is her penchant for designer items. Photographed leaving the London location of Mr. Chow back in October 2008, Cheryl sported an elegant ombrė green Matthew Williamson gown featuring golden embroidery on the bodice, which she had on for the 2008 National Television Awards.

Cheryl knows how to vamp it up on the casual side, too. Clad in a fantastic Missoni Everest knitted track top, skinny J Brand jeans and Yves Saint Laurent Trib Twos, Cheryl’s travel wear certainly made an impact at LAX in February 2010. She rocked a white hot Versace for the Outside the Law premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in May of last year. The dress is from the fashion house’s Fall 2010 collection and showcased not only side cut-outs, but dramatic side slits as well. Corto Moltedo’s gold clutch and Christian Louboutin pumps were thrown in for good measure.

FASHION HIGHLIGHT

Police have begun a murder inquiry after a flamboyant German fashion designer was found apparently strangled to death at his Munich villa.
Rudolph Moshammer was discovered by his driver on Friday morning with a telephone cable around his neck.
Police said an autopsy showed the cord had been the murder weapon.
Mr Moshammer, 64, built a reputation for the extravagant clothes he designed and wore, and was well known on Germany's celebrity circuit.
'No burglary'
Munich prosecutor Peter Boie said there was no apparent motive for the attack but police were conducting investigations in Munich's gay scene.
Mr Boie said: "Everything indicates that he was murdered. He had neck injuries."
He said there were no signs of a burglary or fight and no items of value had been removed.

Dana Clothing Provides Consumers with Socially-Responsible Buying Power

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- There are so many consumer choices on the market. That's why Dana Clothing is making it easier for people to make socially-responsible decisions about what they buy. For each t-shirt a consumer buys, one t-shirt will be donated to a child in need. It's a win-win situation.

Currently, the all organic cotton t-shirts are made in Africa at a women-empowered shop. Women are paid fair wages and provided with good working conditions.

In turn, cotton t-shirts are being gifted to "Shoes that Fit" (www.shoesthatfit.org), a non-profit organization that provides children in need, nationwide, with new shoes for schools. Now, thanks to Dana Clothing, they will also be providing t-shirts with the Dana logo.

"It's not just about the physical aspect of providing shoes and t-shirts," says Karl Helm, founder of Dana Clothing. "It's also about letting these children know that we care as well as provide them with cool designs that they can be proud to wear. In addition, with the current economic climate there are more children in need of help, it's important for everyone to try to do their part. The buy one / gift one option is an excellent choice for charitable giving."

About Dana Clothing:

Partially inspired by Tom's Shoes, founded on the simple premise - with every pair you purchase, Tom's will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need - the concept of "One for One" was created.

Launched in 2010, Dana Clothing practices that same "One for One" philosophy. The name "Dana" reflects the basic Buddhist virtue - generosity - which is not so much the act of giving as it is the feeling of wanting to give, of wanting to share what you have with other people. As a result, Dana Clothing uses individual buying power to benefit the greater whole.

Karl Helm, a social entrepreneur, has future plans for the company that he will reveal shortly, but is excited to begin planning. This is only a preview of things to come. For now, Dana Clothing gives freely to others; something more important than larger profit margins.
